C’est avec un grand plaisir que Bordeaux accueille le 48 ème championnat d’Europe de football des opéras et théâtres et je remercie les organisateurs d’avoir choisi notre ville comme lieu de compétition. Organisé depuis 1970 ce tournoi de sport atypique voit se rencontrer deux mondes. En effet ces joueurs sont d’ordinaire plus des habitués des scènes de théâtre ou d’opéras que des terrains de foot. Mais nous savons tous que la passion du sport et notamment du ballon rond fait « qu’il n’y a pas d’endroit où l’homme est plus heureux que dans un stade » écrivait Albert Camus. A Bordeaux nous aimons le sport. Ici, le sport n’est pas seulement une pratique ou une institution. A Bordeaux, le sport est une véritable passion populaire qui à l’occasion d’un match peut faire vibrer toute la ville tant les Girondins et l’UBB y tiennent une place importante. Après avoir été élue ville européenne du sport en 2015, Bordeaux accueille cette année 5 matchs de l’Euro 2016. En préambule à cette compétition tant attendue nous aurons donc la chance de voir s’affronter une vingtaine d’équipe en provenance de toute l’Europe pour le tournoi Europera, un évènement avant tout convivial et festif. L’Opéra de Bordeaux est un habitué de la compétition. Nous serons nombreux à le soutenir le 8 mai au stade Matmut Atlantique.

It is with great pleasure that Bordeaux hosts the 48th European Football Championship operas and theaters and I thank the organizers for having chosen our city as a place of competition.

Organized since 1970 this unusual sport tournament sees two worlds encounter.

Indeed these players are usually more accustomed to scenes of theater or opera as football fields. But we all know that the passion of sport and especially of football is that "there is no place where the man is happier than a stadium" wrote Albert Camus.

In Bordeaux we love sports. Here, sport is not only a practice or institution. In Bordeaux, sport is a true popular passion that during a match can vibrate the entire city as the Girondins and UBB are important there. After being elected European City of Sport in 2015, Bordeaux hosts this year 5 matches of the Euro 2016.

As a preamble to this competition as expected we will have the chance to see about twenty teams from all over Europe to the Europera tournament, an friendly and festive event..

Bordeaux Opera is regular in the competition. Many of us will support themon May 8th at Bordeaux Matmut-Atlantique new stadium.

Maribor's team from Slovenia is a major competitor of the tournament. One that produce the most beautiful football on the field and the most memorable evenings after the competition. 

Winner of 2010 and 2013 editions, and finalist of their own edition in 2014, Maribor will be for sure once again in the list of title contenders.
